JUNIOR CLASS INFORMATION
JUNIOR YEAR TIMELINE
→Research options for post-secondary schools. This includes 2-year colleges, 4-year colleges, or specialized programs.
→ Visit colleges throughout the summer.
→ Take the Interest Inventories on CFNC.org to see what careers match your interests.
→ Meet with your counselor to ensure you are on-track for graduation.
→ Make sure that you are enrolled in courses that meet minimum college requirements. READ: How to Succeed in High School Math
→ Take the PSAT in the fall to be entered in the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) competition.
→ Begin to research scholarships at CFNC.org and through the monthly FVHS Scholarship Bulletin.
→ Begin to identify colleges that suit your needs. These include size, location, majors, financial opportunities, and social/cultural activities.
→ Take on leadership roles in the clubs and sports.
→ Check on the nomination process for military academies if you are interested. You must contact a local state-elected representative before applying to most military academies.
→ Meet with military recruiters if you are interested in any branch of the military. See Dr. Jessee (the Career Development Coordinator) in Room 101 to find out when military recruiters will be visiting FVHS.
→ Register for the SAT. It is best to wait until the Spring semester to ensure that you have been exposed to several levels of Math and English courses.
→ You will take the ACT in the Spring of your junior year at FVHS!
→ Practice for the SAT and ACT. CollegeBoard and ACTstudent has free test-prep.
→ Student athletes -- review NCAA Eligibility FAQs and the NCAA Eligibility Center for Division I, II, and III. Talk with coaches about college sports and scholarship eligibility.
→ Begin your high school resume.
→ Finalize your list of colleges and make sure to include "reach, reasonable, and safety net" schools in your list.
→ Schedule tours of colleges during teacher workdays, vacation days, or weekends.
→ Research summer enrichment programs and summer job opportunities.

Your GPA at the end of your junior year will be the GPA that you use to apply to college! It is sometimes too late to wait until senior year to improve your GPA for college admissions.
